2 hands The Garden Club of Teaneck

. . . .is a long-established organization whose main purpose is to promote and pursue horticultural interests.

The staff of the Junior Garden Club will combine teaching experiences with hands-on activities that foster knowledge of horticulture, plant development, propagation, garden design, care of the garden and more. We will have a garden plot to grow herbs and vegetables and donate some of the yield to the food pantry. We want not only to impart knowledge, but to teach good citizenship.

The JGCT will meet twice a month on the second and fourth Sundays of the month beginning March 13, 2016 through October 23, 2016 from 2:30 until 4:00, with the exception of the months of July and August, which will meet at 9:30 until 11:00. Due to frequent harvesting and maintenance during July and August, some participants may be asked to come the first and third Sundays instead of the second and fourth Sundays. All dates and times are subject to change. We will have an End-of-Year Celebration October 30, 2016 from 2:30-4. All sessions will be held at the Garden Club of Teaneck greenhouse and gardens, located next to 296 Lindbergh Boulevard.

The Club is divided into two sections. Level I is for new participants, and Level II is for children who have completed Level I. All participants must be in grade one through four as of February 1, 2016. Parents of first and second graders are required to participate with their child for all sessions. Parents of third and fourth graders may be asked to volunteer when needed. Due to insurance guidelines, only those enrolled in the program and their parents/guardians may attend.

The JGCT program takes place inside and outside, so participants should dress for the weather. Children and parents should wear durable clothing that allows you to move freely and that can get dirty. Expect to garden, paint, move around on the ground, cook and eat, dig for worms and possibly get wet while watering. We’re going to have a lot of fun!

Please label with your name and bring the following items each session in a backpack or bag: water bottle, sunscreen when applicable, layers of comfortable clothes that can get dirty (or possible change of clothes), rain gear when applicable, HAT (compulsory); no flip-flops or open-toe shoes, please - sneakers or boots are compulsory.

When you arrive, please walk with children into the greenhouse/gardens, check in with a JGCT staff or volunteer.  At the end of the session, please check-out with us and take home belongings.

In developing future activities we might request items such as plastic containers, bottles, coffee cans, etc.
